Founder & Director

Jimmy Johnson brings over 25 years of coaching experience and a significant playing history to Advantage Tennis Academy, as well as a background in managing and directing academies and tennis clubs/facilities.

Jimmy played both junior and Division 1 college tennis and then went on to play the ATP Tour. After playing on the tour, he continued to pursue his education at a highly specialized “Tennis Technical Program” at Tyler College in Texas. This program equipped him with an in-depth understanding of the biomechanics of successful stroke production. His coaching experience ranges from beginners to ATP players, with a specialty in identifying talent. Jimmy attributes his success as a coach to his ability to push players to higher levels than they thought possible, and his emphasis on helping students improve key aspects of their technical game. Combining his deep understanding of the principles of kinesiology and strategy with his own extensive experience, Jimmy consistently produces a high number successful players.

Mahmoud grew up in Cairo, Egypt, where he was a top 3 junior player. He then came to the U.S., where he achieved a top ITF ranking and was awarded Division 1 Scholarships at both Rice University and Loyola Marymount University.

Mahmoud played the ATP tour for two years before an injury led him to dedicate his life to coaching others. He partnered with Jimmy Johnson to build and grow Advantage Tennis Academy in 2005. For over 13 years, Mahmoud has coached top nationally and internationally ranked juniors, including both ATP and WTA touring pros. Mahmoud’s unique ability to understand the mental aspect of tennis helps him connect with players and instill in them the mental toughness tactics that are critical for any aspiring athlete. Mahmoud assists the Advantage players on a day-to-day basis with developing their mental focus, physical conditioning, and game-winning strategy.

Program Director/College Placement

Brandon Fallon brings 13 years of teaching experience and an impressive playing background to his work at Advantage Tennis Academy. He was ranked among the top 5 Southern California juniors in each age division, top ranked nationally for juniors in the 18’s, and world ranked in singles and doubles for 3 consecutive years.

By 2004 Brandon had achieved an ATP ranking of top 800 in the world, with wins over players as high as top 60 ATP in singles. In college, Brandon was an academic All-American and played both number one singles and doubles for UNLV and Cal Poly-SLO. His coaching experience includes coaching the tennis teams at Cal Poly SLO (2001) and San Diego State University (2004-2007). With his expertise in stroke analysis using video software and his certifications as both a USTA high performance coach (2006) and a USPTA Pro-1 level coach, Brandon helps the best students play even better. Currently, Brandon is the director of player development and the college placement program at Advantage.

Diana Karim
Fitness Instructor

Diana Karim is a personal trainer who specializes in tennis-specific high performance strength and conditioning. She grew up playing competitive tennis on a local, national, and international level as well as D-1 college tennis for Loyola Marymount University. With her extensive background in tennis and a passion for fitness, Diana knows what it takes for players to take their game to the next level. She focuses on collaborating with players, parents, and coaches to develop the athlete and help them achieve their greatest potential.

Having been an athlete her entire life, Bridget has always had the drive to be stronger and faster. That is why she took her physical fitness career and bumped it up a notch to training high level athletes. Bridget's knowledge of what it takes to win has brought many years of victory for her athletes’ lives. Speed, endurance, power, as well as physical and mental strength is what Bridget provides to athletes who want to win. Bridget’s positive spirit and her “you gotta want it” attitude will keep you in the game. It is all about the results. She wants her athletes to win. Hard work, discipline, and the "want" to win is what creates the next best player.

Fitness Instructor

Nicola Strother, personal trainer and fitness instructor, brings her uniquely tennis-focused expertise to her role as fitness instructor at Advantage. Nicola is a Certified Pat Etcheberry trainer, a certification which focuses on speed, agility, quickness, and fitness specifically for tennis players. She also holds a BA from UCLA and is a NESTA certified personal trainer as well as a certified nutrition coach. With these qualifications and her dedication to effective fitness techniques, Nicola is able to provide Advantage students with specialized training for their needsas tennis athletes. She trains students on strength and balance, with a focus on prehabilitation exercises to prevent injuries.

Brad Barber
Academic Director

Brad Barber worked his way through college and started a successful business his senior year at BYU, where he earned his BA in economics. After selling his company in 2006, Brad turned his sights on improving education. While earning his master’s degree in education best practices and his teaching credential through National University and Azusa Pacific, he was a founding teacher at Nova Academy. This Early College Charter High School was recognized and honored by many, including US News and World Report.

Based upon much of the research published by the Clayton Christensen Institute, Brad created a blended learning model at Advantage Learning Academy that would give students a rigorous college preparatory academics experience while providing flexibility for extensive training and travel.

Brad is a native to South Orange County and is married with 4 children and likes to compete in local surfing and table tennis tournaments.

Sharon completed her undergraduate at UCLA in Kinesiology and her multiple subject credential at Cal State Fullerton. Sharon has taught elementary school for 12 years and especially enjoys teaching science and math. Sharon is married to Ron and has two adult children, Ryan and Krista. In her free time she enjoys reading, going to the beach and creating various crafts.

Lori Radcliffe received her B.A. in English Literature as well as her credential from Biola University. Early in her career, Lori taught English 1-4 at Valley Christian (San Jose) and Whittier Christian high schools. She has served in a variety of educational roles including private tutoring, Learning Rx, and homeschooling her six children grades K-8. She currently teaches at Advantage Tennis Academy in Irvine and is the 7th/8th grade homeschool teacher for Capistrano Valley Christian School. Lori has also authored four books for Teacher Created Materials.

Anne Stuck earned her B.A. and secondary teaching credential from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA. She has taught high school P.E. and science, as well as middle school science, but the majority of her teaching years have been spent in an Independent Study/Homeschool program in a local school district. She has also spent some time coaching high school swimming and volleyball, as well as watching her own kids compete in water polo, swimming, and baseball, so she enjoys being with student-athletes as well. She has been married for 30 years and has 4 adult kids, with her first grandchild on the way. She is excited to be working at Advantage Tennis Academy this year as a Learning Coach!
